Frequently asked
Questions we often get in the Inner West
How much does air conditioning cost in the Inner West?
A single split system installed runs $1,800–$3,200, which covers most terrace bedrooms and apartment living rooms. A multi-head system with 3 heads is $5,500–$8,500 and suits a terrace or semi where one outdoor unit has to serve several rooms. For ducted, a compact single-storey home lands at $11,000–$13,000, a 4-bedroom house at $13,000–$16,000, and larger or double-storey layouts at $16,000+. Whole-home ducted running costs are roughly $1–$2 per hour.
Can I install air conditioning in a heritage conservation area?
Yes, and most Inner West jobs are in one. Haberfield is a heritage conservation area in its entirety, and large parts of Balmain, Annandale, Summer Hill, Stanmore, Petersham and Dulwich Hill are covered too. The practical rule is that the outdoor unit goes at the rear or side of the house, out of view from the street, and pipework runs discreetly. We check the council's requirements for your street before we quote, so the system you are priced on is one you can actually install.
What about apartments and strata blocks?
Ashfield, Marrickville, Dulwich Hill and Summer Hill have some of the highest apartment density in Sydney, from older brick walk-ups to new towers along the stations. An outdoor unit on a balcony, roof or common wall usually needs strata approval, and we supply the drawings and unit specifications the committee asks for. Where a balcony can only take one condenser, a multi-head split serves the bedrooms and living area from that single unit.
How do you handle terraces with shared roofs and narrow blocks?
Victorian terraces in Newtown, Balmain, Annandale and Stanmore share party walls and often share a roof line, so the ceiling cavity is shallow and access is from a small manhole. A slim-line ducted chassis or a multi-head split with the condenser in the rear lane or courtyard is the usual answer. We never penetrate a party wall, and pipe runs are planned so nothing is visible from the front of the terrace.
Does the flight path change what you recommend?
It does. Marrickville, Sydenham, Tempe and St Peters, and parts of Stanmore, Newtown and Dulwich Hill, sit under the Sydney Airport approaches, so windows stay shut for much of the day and cooling carries more of the load than it would in a breezy suburb. We favour quiet inverter indoor units, size for closed-up rooms, and make sure the system can run all afternoon without the house feeling stale.
Which suburbs across the Inner West do you cover?
All of them. Balmain and Birchgrove, Rozelle and Lilyfield, Leichhardt, Annandale, Newtown, Enmore and Camperdown, Stanmore and Petersham, Marrickville, Sydenham, Tempe and St Peters, Dulwich Hill and Lewisham, Summer Hill, Ashfield and Croydon, and Haberfield.
Do you handle air conditioning repairs in the Inner West?
Yes. We repair and service all major brands, and total breakdowns are triaged first during heatwaves. Older wall units in terraces and interwar flats are common here, and a fault on one of them is usually a capacitor, a fan motor or low refrigerant; we quote the repair fixed before any work starts, and we tell you honestly when replacement is the better spend.
Are you licensed for the work?
Yes. Luxe Air is ARCtick certified and fully licensed for air conditioning and refrigeration work in NSW, and every install is carried out to manufacturer specification so your warranty stays intact.
