Ducted across the council area, from old streets to the growth corridor

North of the rail line, Glenwood, Stanhope Gardens, The Ponds and Schofields are built from much the same template: two storeys, bedrooms upstairs, open-plan living below and a dark tile roof. On heatwave days the roof cavity gets far hotter than the air outside, and that heat keeps soaking into the upper floor long after sunset. A ducted system here has to be zoned by floor and sized for that cavity load, with the upstairs zone able to run on its own overnight. Side setbacks on estate lots are narrow, so the condenser position is settled at the quote, not on install day.

Many of those estate homes already have ducted, fitted by the builder. In The Ponds the systems installed between 2008 and 2018 are reaching their first replacement, and plenty of them were single-zone units that cooled both floors at once. We reuse sound ductwork where we can and add zoning. Seven Hills brings a different kind of conversion: homes still running an old ducted gas furnace. Whether those ducts can carry reverse-cycle air depends on their size, condition and insulation, so we inspect them in the roof before quoting a reuse or a fresh layout.

The single-storey brick veneer homes of Marayong and the 1980s to 90s brick houses in Quakers Hill take ducted well, with pitched tile roofs and workable ceiling space. The design issue is evening heat: brick soaks it up all afternoon and releases it into bedrooms after dark, so bedroom zones get priority. Rooty Hill's 1980s infill can have lower roof pitches that call for a slimmer indoor unit, and some of Riverstone's old timber cottages have no usable ceiling access at all. Those need an inspection before anyone can promise ducted will fit.

Ducted in Blacktown splits along housing era. The postwar fibro and brick homes need honest assessment first: some have ceiling cavities too shallow for a standard chassis, and their thin walls and minimal insulation mean we size up rather than trusting a bedroom-count rule of thumb. The later brick family homes are far simpler, taking a 4-zone system cleanly in a day or two. Either way we quote a fixed price up front, not an estimate that grows.

The climate argument for ducted is stronger in Blacktown than almost anywhere nearer the coast. When a heatwave parks 40°C over western Sydney for a week, single wall units in one room leave the rest of the house unliveable. A properly zoned ducted system holds the whole home comfortable for roughly $1–$2 per hour, and we set zones so bedrooms can run overnight without paying to cool empty living areas.
