Why servicing earns its keep in Sydney
Sydney is a hard city on air conditioners. Humid summers keep indoor coils damp for months, and a damp coil that never gets cleaned becomes a mould problem you can smell the moment the system starts. Anywhere near the coast, salt eats unprotected outdoor coils quietly until capacity drops and power bills climb. In the leafier suburbs the story is simpler: filters and outdoor units choke on leaf litter and jacaranda drop faster than most owners expect.
The economics are straightforward. A serviced system holds its rated efficiency, an unserviced one loses it a few percent at a time until the same comfort costs noticeably more to run, and manufacturer warranties lean on documented maintenance when a claim gets made. Book in spring and the system meets summer clean, tested and covered.

Frequently asked
Service questions from Sydney homes
How much does an air conditioning service cost in Sydney?
A split system service is $189, a multi-head system with 3 heads is $329, and a full ducted service is $349. Those are flat prices, and any repair work found during the service is quoted separately before anything is done.
What does the service actually include?
Filters and indoor coils cleaned, condensate drains cleared and treated, refrigerant performance tested, electrical connections checked and tightened, outdoor coil washed, and airflow and temperatures verified against spec. For ducted systems we also run every zone and check the motorised dampers.
How often should I have my system serviced?
Once a year for most homes, ideally in spring before the heavy season. Systems within a few streets of the ocean benefit from a second outdoor coil wash mid-season because salt exposure does its damage quickly.
Does skipping services void my warranty?
It can. Most manufacturers require documented regular maintenance as a warranty condition, and a claim on a neglected system is where that condition gets tested. An annual service invoice is cheap insurance against a refused claim.
My air conditioner smells musty when it starts. Is that fixable?
Yes, and it is one of the most common things we are called for in Sydney. The smell is microbial growth on a damp indoor coil and in the drain pan. A proper coil clean and drain treatment removes it, and yearly servicing stops it coming back.
Do you service systems you did not install?
Happily. Most of the systems we maintain across Sydney were installed by someone else. First visit, we baseline the system, flag anything already wearing, and from there it is on the same annual program as everything we install.
